LaBash Guitar Lessons 818-425-2557

Please read all of this.

To my students.

I am going to deal with a big problem before we get to it.

Practicing and doing the homework.

I have had some great students at all ages. I have had bad students too.

What sets successful people apart is their willingness to do the work without being asked. I started taking lessons at 13. I am no genius and never claimed I was, but I wanted to play badly and am the type to dig into things and stick with it.

You have with the book “interlock”, Canvas, YouTube and ultimate Guitar.

More tools then I ever had when I started.

I am not going to disrespect anyone or be just plain mean.

I have had teachers like that in school and hated them, I still did the work.

I want to be aware of anything causing you issues. I will do my best to get this to work.

If I reach out to you, please reach back to me.

The problem is you and I want to be the solution!!!!!

The problem is you and I want to be the solution!!!!!

That seems to be insensitive and brash to say that.

Just communicate with me, we can overcome this.

Just communicate If you have any physical impairment, tell me. Sometimes it is obvious, but sometimes not.

Just communicate Visual issues can be prohibitive for a lot of people. I would know as I get older it is getting harder to read.

Just communicate Learning problems can be slight to severe. If you don’t tell me, I might not pick up on it.

Just communicate I have ways of dealing with these things.

You can speak to me in private, so you are not uncomfortable.

Just communicate I am not a mind reader. You see that in bold in this whole section.

 I am able to help.

 I am able to help.

When anyone tries to do anything for the first time you can feel like a failure, you are not.

This does not happen overnight. Everything is one day at a time.

Being organized will eliminate stress and make this much easier for both of us.

  • Pick a time and stick with it, regulate yourself.
  • Have everything ready when you start.
  • Tune up. Use a phone app or a clamp on tuner. Out of tune makes you sound bad
  • START SLOW!! Don’t play so fast you will trip yourself up.
  • Use Canvas and the YouTube videos. This will again reduce stress.
  • Keep your left-hand nails trimmed. If they are too long you will not get good tone.
  • Watch the left hand and wrist bent slightly. Keep your thumb behind the neck to support it.
  • Recite the Finger, Fret, and string when you practice. I do it to this day.

Computers Software and Guitars.

You use a desktop computer, the site works with Mac or PC. You can use a tablet too.

You can use any phone Apple or Android are both fine for this. The only variable would be the browser.

Internet Explorer, Firefox, Crome, Brave, Safari, or any other will work, I think!

However, Technology is a wonderful thing, when it works! Keep your cache clear!

If you can’t view or get into the site CALL ME!

Software

I use Guitar Pro for teaching, and I am a Guitar pro teacher.

There is another software called Powertab. It is free. It only works on P.C.

For Apple there is Tabview. It cost about 12.00, but it does the job.

MuseScore is a notation software that is open source and free! It has some great features.

Muse Score has teamed up with IMSLP to give access to classical and orchestrations.

I will go in depth on all of this on my Blog.

Guitars Acoustic and Electric.

I understand the limitations of money. I always advise if you don’t have a guitar, ask family, friends and neighbors.

It is very possible to get a guitar for free. There are Facebook pages of free stuff and Craigs list too.

My concern would be the weight of the strings and the size of the guitar.

If the tension is too harsh it will be hard to play. I can put lighter strings on, and it will be easy.

There are three basic types Electric which are metal and Acoustic which are Bronze, then Classical which are nylon.

Electrics are generally easiest to play. You would need and amp , but you can play without one.

Acoustic Bronze are most likely in need of lighter strings. I will post on my blog more information.

Classical guitars can have very large necks and that could be hard for some, especially a smaller individual.
